The police raided and reinforced protection at Facebook headquarters on the evening of Tuesday (11), after the company received a threat that proved “totally not credible,” according to authorities in the region of San Francisco.
The Facebook , the largest social network in the world, retained employees at headquarters until police arrived, according to Dave Bertini, a spokesman for police in the town of Menlo Park,California . Employees were allowed to leave the site around 20:30 (0h30 Wednesday GMT).
“It was a totally non-credible threat and unsubstantiated,” Bertini said, without elaborating on what the threat was. “I’m not even sure that was specifically for the Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park.”
Facebook declined to comment on the incident, and the San Francisco Police did not immediately respond to contacts from Reuters.
